Showcase 22

Confederation of Bar

For the first time, this showcase takes us to the period after 1763, when Stanislaw August Poniatowski ascended the Polish throne, whose reign coincided with the fall of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and its disappearance from the map of Europe for the next 123 years. But it also touches on other themes, not just historical ones. It uses military artefacts to illustrate the close links between three spheres of social life: politics, the army and religion. It refers to the showcase opposite, where the civil, military and ecclesiastical orders correspond with the religious symbols on the reverse.
