The showcase is divided into three sections. The first continues the theme of the November Uprising of 1831 by displaying the uniform of one of its commanders: Jan Weysenhoff. It shows the decline of the splendid Polish uniform and the need to adopt the patterns imposed by the occupying powers. The sabre accompanying the uniform and the third part of the showcase with the green uniform refer to the issue of emigration after the uprising and the relations between Poles and Hungarians beyond the southern border. The central part is a reference to the civic souvenirs in the form of swords displayed across from it. In the 1860s, Krakow’s citizens regained the right to carry sabres on their sides. The Karabela saber, worn with the Polish costume, was chosen as the national type. The Hungarians, on the other hand, chose another type of oriental saber as their national model – the Ottoman kilidge. These sabers are rich in symbolism and decoration.
